A personal message from Sir Jackie
It is clear that with the global economic downturn, Formula One is changing and this is likely to have an impact on the number of mechanics jobs in the industry. If this affects you through redundancy or the curtailing of job opportunities, you are still a skilled individual who any employer would be fortunate to have as a part of their team. You have the drive to work hard, even at the cost of personal sacrifice in terms of constant travel and family life. It is important at a time like this to make sure you are equipped to share your talents and in return find a role which suits your skills and values, allows you to make a valid contribution, and to feel happy and satisfied.

To try to help, we commissioned a team of specialist to create a series of guidance booklets. Entitled Career Planning: A Next Step Guide, they are a practical contribution that we offer at no cost to you if you have to find your way to a new career.  The guide takes you through a personal analysis which will assist you to highlight and articulate your skills, values, personal attributes, strengths and weaknesses. It will help you identify features you should be looking for in your new job and those features you should avoid. It also contains:

  • information on the job search process including researching the market,
networking and where to find further help and advice
  • practical guidance on applying for a job, this will tell you how to organise your job search,
write your CV, and perform well in an interview
  • an overview of alternatives to being employed, such as running your own business

If you have any questions you think the Trust might be able to help with, please do contact our Professional Needs Assessor, Ruth Ritchie. Ruth can be contacted by email at ruth@gpmechanicstrust.com

If you are faced with having to change your job I would like to wish you the best of luck in your future career and reiterate to you just how important you have been to the success of your team and the public’s enjoyment of Formula One and how much you have to offer in new opportunities.
